Dr Daniela Rothe | Educational Sciences | Head of Department
As an educational scientist and writing coach, I am interested in the role that writing plays in learning subject content and in processes of knowledge formation. I am particularly interested in helping writers to further develop their reflective writing skills so that they can better understand writing requirements in an academic context and organise their writing processes more productively. It is possible to enjoy writing more.

Lea Dechert, M.A. | European Ethnology | Deputy Head of Department
During my studies, I experienced how valuable it can be to exchange ideas about your own writing. We often get stuck in our writing habits, and especially when we don’t know how to keep going, a change of perspective can get the writing process going again. At the writing centre, students have the opportunity to discuss their writing issues, get to know new strategies and methods, and try them out for their texts. My aim is to encourage students to write academic texts independently and confidently, and to develop more confidence in their own writing.

Josephine Haagen, M.A. | Translation Studies | Writing Tutor
As an academic writing tutor, I support students in writing in English, because what language you write in makes more of a difference than you might think. If you are writing in English rather than German, for example, you are going to have to adhere to different linguistic conventions, follow a more linear argument structure and pay attention to specific details when referencing other literature. When teaching this content, I focus on helping students recognise language and text structures more quickly so they can apply them to their own writing. A few practical tips often help to make the writing process easier and improve the readability of the text.

Jan Misera, M.Sc. | Geography | Writing tutor
As a doctoral student in geography, which as a spatial science is located between the natural and social sciences, I have already gained experience in writing journal articles in both German and English and have worked on several collaborative writing projects. For my Master's thesis, I joined the Transient Spaces & Societies research group and analysed eye tracking data. The study focused on the impact of media contributions on the individual perception of space in public parks. I am particularly keen to support students in their writing processes.

Janin Maffey, B.A. | Educational Sciences and Sociology | Writing tutor
For me, studying means thinking through writing. As a writing tutor, I want to inspire students to use creative writing methods, because they can make it easier to get started in academic writing. I’m also interested in reading strategies and note-taking techniques that help you incorporate the knowledge acquired through reading into your own academic work in a comprehensible way. Additionally, I am keen on supporting students of different subjects in the use of gender-sensitive and inclusive language.

Dipl.-Ing. Daniel Singh | Architecture and Comparative Literature| Writing tutor
Being a student myself, I am familiar with the writing tasks required at university. It can be challenging to continuously pursue and complete writing assignments alongside other commitments. Therefore, I am dedicated to supporting other students in dealing with their various (writing) tasks and to help them stay motivated and enjoy their writing projects. I see writing as a very individual process in which methods and analogue and digital tools can provide support without becoming an end in themselves.
