Littering - Sorting analysis of waste from roadside greenery

Client: ATM (Abfallwirtschaft Tirol Mitte GmbH)

Implementation period: May 2017

Project description:

Littering, or the "disposal" of waste from car windows, is not only an unsightly sight but also a danger to humans and animals and causes additional costs for local authorities due to the high cleaning effort. The Waste Treatment and Resource Management department was commissioned by ATM to determine which materials are mainly disposed of via car windows. For this purpose, waste was collected from four road maintenance depots (Zirl, Vomp, Zell am Ziller, Matrei am Brenner) next to federal roads. The composition of this waste was analysed using a sorting analysis. The sorting fractions to be determined included plastics (packaging and non-packaging), wood, paper/cardboard (packaging and non-packaging), metal (drinks cans, other metal packaging), glass and textiles.
