Occupational safety

Access to the TVFA Innsbruck is only permitted after a safety briefing. Depending on the purpose of the visit, a distinction is made between different types of safety instruction.

  1. Safety instruction for work carried out on the premises of the TVFA
  2. Safety instruction for the access of students in the course of lectures/exercises
  3. Safety instruction for the access of customers / visitors

The following steps are required before students (doctoral candidates, diploma students, etc.) and employees of the University of Innsbruck can begin laboratory work:

  1. Obtain authorisation: Availability of laboratory staff and equipment must be requested from the head of the TVFA laboratory. Enclosure 1 of the form "Registration of a Master's Thesis" and Enclosure 2 of the form "Registration of a Dissertation" are used for this purpose. After obtaining all necessary signatures, the application must be sent as a PDF to the head of the laboratory andreas.andreatta@uibk.ac.at.
  2. General safety instruction: Work through the contents of "General safety instruction laboratory" in self-study. A short written examination must then be taken to confirm what has been learnt. Registration takes place by e-mail to the laboratory manager andreas.andreatta@uibk.ac.at.
  3. Information sheet TVFA Laboratory: The completed document (German/ English) must be brought to the examination.
  4. Passportphoto: A passport photo (width 2.5 cm, height 3 cm) for the laboratory ID card must also be brought to the examination.
  5. Follow-up training: Annual follow-up training is mandatory (Follow-up instruction laboratory 2026).

Before starting exercises in the laboratory, which are carried out by the respective course instructor, the following points must be observed:

  1. Obtain authorisation: The availability of laboratory staff and equipment must be clarified with the TVFA laboratory manager.
  2. Check the number of participants:
    1. In closed rooms, the maximum number of participants is limited to 15.
    2. In rooms with open exits (door width at least 80 cm), the permitted number of people depends on the size of the room (guideline: 1 person per 2 m²).

  3. Carry out safety instruction :
    1. The Safety instruction for teaching and study operations is carried out by the respective course instructor.
    2. All participants must also complete a Proof of instruction, which is then forwarded to the TVFA's Management for documentation.

Customers must observe the following points before entering the laboratory:

  1. Pre-registration: The visit must be registered in advance with the TVFA laboratory manager.
  2. Safety briefing: The safety briefing for customers and visitors (German/English) ) is carried out by the responsible manager of the visitor group.
  3. Proof of instruction (German/English) must be completed by all participants and sent to the TVFA management for documentation.

Safety data sheets

Before hazardous substances are used in the TVFA laboratories, the relevant safety data sheets for the respective work areas must be sent in electronic form to the TVFA e-mail address (see Contact). The responsibility for the proper handling, storage and disposal of these substances lies with the respective work areas.

Before using TVFA machines, all users are obliged to read and observe the relevant operating instructions.
