Open positions
PhD Position (FWF): “Effective medium approach for equilibrium and driven Lorentz models”
Applications are invited for a PhD position funded by the Austrian Science Fund (FWF) on the project “Effective medium approach for equilibrium and driven Lorentz models,” starting June 2026 (or by agreement).
At a later stage, the position may include teaching duties; knowledge of German is therefore advantageous. Applicants should hold (or be close to completing) a Master’s degree in physics or a related field, with strong interest in statistical and non‑equilibrium physics
and good communication skills in English. The work combines analytical theory with symbolic computation (Mathematica) and numerical implementation; candidates should have strong analytical skills and be prepared to use computer algebra and develop numerical solutions.
To apply, please email a single PDF (brief cover letter, CV, transcripts) to thomas.franosch@uibk.ac.at using the subject line “PhD Application — Lorentz Models.”
