Available Grants

While COST Actions do not provide funding for research projects, a variety of funding/grant options are available to support exchanges among Action members in line with the Action’s aims (e.g. presenting work resulting from or relevant to the Action at conferences, research visits within the context of the Action, and Action-related publications):

The following grants are currently open for applications:

Short-Term Scientific Missions (STSMs) (up to 4000 euros per visit):
We are providing a contribution for travelling, accommodation and subsistence expenses, implementation of the project, delivery of the report to the COST Action MC and overall effort. Examples could be research visits to labs (e.g. learning how to acquire brainstem MRI in parkinsons, learn more about particular brainstem issues in chronic pain etc., compare imaging sequences for iron imaging in the brainstem, etc.)

Conference Grants (Up to EUR 2 500,00 per grant for face-to-face conferences OR EUR 500.00 for online conferences)
We are providing a contribution for travelling, accommodation and subsistence expenses, printing of scientific poster (YRI) registration fee and overall effort.

There are three different types of Conference Grants one can apply for:
1. Inclusiveness Target Countries (ITC) Conference Grants are specifically reserved for participants with an affiliation to an ITC (e.g. Ukraine, Greece, Portugal, Turkey, etc.).
2. Young Researcher and Innovator (YRI) Conference Grants given to young researchers (aged < 40)
and
3. Dissemination Conference Grants available to any eligible Action member for presenting Action-related work at international conferences (no specific age or country restrictions).

Please only apply if your travel cannot be funded otherwise.

Grant application deadlines:
The first deadline for grant applications will be end of march and the second end of July

All grants need to be applied for through your personal e-COST profile. Grant success depends on fit with the Action aims as well as grant availability.

Grant availability during the lifetime of the COST Action varies by country of origin (specifically, whether you are from an EU country or from elsewhere, see also table below).

All STSM and Conference Grants are paid as a lump sum after completion of the mission or conference. No receipts or financial documentation need to be uploaded for grants. Furthermore, in the application procedure, we don’t currently request any “other documents required by the Action (e.g., recommendation letters, etc.)”; however, this may change in future application cycles.

In addition to the grants listed above, we also fund attendance at internal COST Action events (e.g. General Meetings, Working Group meetings, and Training Schools). For these events, travel reimbursement and daily allowances apply. Information on travel reimbursement procedures and daily allowance rules can be found here. These reimbursement rules apply only to internal events (meetings and Trainings Schools) and not to STSM or Conference Grants.

We also fund dissemination costs, such as open access publication fees, for publications authored by at least three COST Full or Cooperating Members. For this type of funding, please contact us directly under ImagingBrainstemHealth-Psychology@uibk.ac.at or get in touch with your Working Group Lead.
