Robert Steiger is Associate Professor at the Department of Public Finance, University of Innsbruck. His research interests are in the field of sustainable tourism development, regional economics, behavioral economics (tourist behavior) and climate change impacts on tourism. He has worked on the topic of climate change and tourism for more than ten years and is co-author of the Austrian Climate Report (AAR2), which is currently being prepared.

Robert Steiger is studying sustainable tourism development in mountain areas, the impact of climate change and adaptation strategies. The geographer and economist investigates climate change risks of tourism markets and individual destinations. He has conducted market-wide analyses for a number of relevant ski destinations in the world, including Austria, Switzerland, southern Germany, northern Italy, Scandinavia, North America, and China. Such climate change risk evaluations are important for a sustainable tourism development. With his research, Robert Steiger aims to improve knowledge about the impact of climate change impacts on the tourism industry and provide climate change risk analyses for tourism businesses and regions.
