Lukas Winiwarter is Professor of Geodesy with a focus on geoinformation and AI applications. He investigates how geodetic and geographical knowledge can be optimally combined with algorithms and methods known from computer vision. There are numerous exciting use cases in the Alpine region around Innsbruck and beyond, in mass movements and in forestry, which are becoming increasingly present due to the climate crisis and the strong human-environment interaction.

About
Lukas Winiwarter studied geodesy and geoinformation at TU Wien and completed his doctorate at Heidelberg University. A one-year research stay took him to the University of British Columbia in Vancouver, Canada. In 2024, at the age of 30, he was appointed as the youngest professor at the University of Innsbruck.
