Georg Wohlfahrt is an associate professor at the Department of Ecology. His area of research is the interactions between the biosphere and the atmosphere, especially those that have the potential to amplify or mitigate climate change. He focuses on the ability of ecosystems to act as sinks or sources of greenhouse gases and how these processes are influenced by global changes.

About

Georg Wohlfahrt studied biology, specializing in ecology, at the University of Innsbruck and received his doctorate in 1999 on gas exchange in mountain grassland ecosystems under the influence of land use changes. He worked as a postdoctoral researcher at the Institute of Botany and later as an assistant professor at the Institute of Ecology at the University of Innsbruck. Since 2011, he has been leading the Biometeorology Research Group as an associate professor. The research approach combines field measurements, for example at the Core Facility Forest-Atmosphere-Interaction-Research-Site (FAIR), with remote and close-range sensing data and analysis using a wide variety of modeling approaches.
