Gabriela Kompatscher-Gufler is the deputy head of the Department of Classical Philology and Neolatin Studies at the University of Innsbruck, where she studied Latin and History, received her doctorate in Latin in 1994 and her teaching license as an university lecturer in 2003. She is particularly interested in animal ethics. Kompatscher-Gufler is part of a small research team in Innsbruck that has been working on human-animal studies since 2012 and investigates the human-animal relationship from various perspectives.
