Esther Blanco is a Professor of Economics at the Institute of Public Finance at the University of Innsbruck, where she is Deputy-Director of the research area "Economy, Politics & Society". Blanco is also coordinating lead author of the Austrian Climate Report (AAR2, Chapter 5), which is currently being prepared. Her research focuses on the influence of institutions on cooperative behavior and the strengthening of green, equitable, knowledge-based societies.

About

Esther Blanco has a multidisciplinary background in Environmental sciences, Environmental Education and Globalization and a PhD in Economics. In her research, Blanco combines economic experiments in the lab and field with surveys, interviews, and questionnaires, and develops innovative multi-methods studies. One of the emphases of her latest research is on the effective design of payments for ecosystem services. Other focuses are the interaction between regulations, economic incentives, decision-making on conservation of natural resources and corporate social responsibility, especially on the relevance of fraud and thus the gap between firms’ actual and claimed environmental practices. She is also co-lead of the large-scale research project “Credence goods, Incentives and Behaviour”. Esther Blanco has conducted research in Europe as well as in several countries of the Global South.
