About

Birgit Sattler has been an associate professor at the Institute of Ecology at the University of Innsbruck since 2011. In her research she focuses on the sensitive ecosystems of glaciers, especially with regard to the climate crisis, using state-of-the-art molecular biological and analytical methods. To date, she has taken part in almost 20 polar journeys, all of which are incorporated into her research work as a limnologist of the frozen biosphere. Sattler is Vice President of the Austrian Institute for Polar Research, a member of the Scientific Advisory Board of the German Society for Polar Research and Austria's delegate to the Antarctic Treaty.
