Arnaud Temme is a professor at the Institute of Geography at the University of Innsbruck and leads the working group “Montane soil-landscape evolution Group – GeoSoil”. In his research, he focuses on the complex interaction between soil development and natural hazards in mountain regions around the world. He also investigates the direct and indirect effects of these dynamics on the communities living in these regions.

About
Arnaud Temme studied Soil, Water and Atmosphere (BSc) and Earth and Environment (MSc) at Wageningen University in the Netherlands. In 2008, he obtained his PhD by conducting field research in the Drakensberg mountains in South Africa. He became an associate professor at Wageningen University in 2014 before moving to Kansas State University in the United States in 2016. He has been Professor of Physical Geography at the University of Innsbruck since 2014.
In addition to his extensive experience observing, measuring and sampling soils and landscapes in the outdoors, Temme has a strong background in modeling. In his research, he attempts to reconcile empirical observations with mechanistic model simulations - meaning he develops computer models that simulate how soils and landscapes form and tests these models against real-world data. The models that Temme and his team develop are available as Open Source code to scientists all over the world.
