847480 UE Leichtbaumethoden - kite workshop
Built into the air 3.0
We begin with a traditional Japanese kite design. The paper is dyed with ink using the shibori technique, and then the kite frame is built from bamboo. Equipped with bridle string, tension string, and flying line, this kite flies even in light wind. Flying a self-made kite inspires the development of a unique kite design: bamboo is split into fine strips to build the kite skeleton using string and many knots. This is then covered with various types of paper (Japanese, Nepalese, etc.). In addition to this detailed material experience, the theory covers the historical, mythological, and cultural context of kites.
