847455 PJ Entwerfen/Bachelorarbeit (vertical studio)
The Bachelor Design Studio builds directly on the research, analyses, and conceptual investigations developed during the Winter Semester. Students will continue to work on the suspension monorail as a historic yet future-oriented and sustainable infrastructure, deepening and translating earlier findings into concrete architectural and structural design proposals. The studio focuses on the suspension railway as an integrated architectural, structural, and urban system, aiming to develop contemporary reinterpretations that address present and future challenges.
The studio is offered as part of a Vertical Studio, running in parallel with the design studio EP Designstudio 2 (Masters). The existing body of research and preliminary studies provides an excellent foundation for further design development. Nevertheless, direct spatial experience remains essential; therefore, participation in the excursion is strongly recommended. An excursion including a ride on the Wuppertal Suspension Monorail will be offered and may be credited with additional ECTS points. In addition, participation in Manifesta 16 Ruhr is planned as part of the academic program.
The final Bachelor design projects will be developed and presented together with the parallel Master designs in a jointly curated exhibition and an accompanying publication, presenting the outcomes of the studio in a shared public format.
