BODEGAS VINIVAL, an architecture competition invites participants to reimagine an iconic industrial space as a dynamic cultural hub inspired by the city’s iconic festival and the spirit of Las Fallas de Valencia.

ERSTER TERMIN - Mittwoch, 01.10.2025, 15.00, LSU - weitere Termine unter Guidelines

Participants are challenged to breathe new life into this mid-century industrial complex – once a thriving wine production facility – by proposing an architectural and landscape intervention that celebrates memory, craftsmanship and reinvention. Whether through bold spatial reconfigurations or subtle reinterpretations of its structural rhythm, the project should reimagine the Bodegas as a dynamic environment for community gathering, creativity and cultural expression. The transformed complex should become a living center for exhibitions, performances, workshops and everyday activity – celebrating Valencia’s traditions while opening the space to new cultural experiences and year-round public use.

Designers are asked to preserve the structural skeleton of the Bodegas and reimagine its vast interiors and surrounding landscape through adaptive reuse strategies. The goal is to propose a flexible cultural centre that functions year-round, hosting exhibitions, workshops, performances and public gatherings both indoors and outdoors. Proposals should merge tradition with innovation and define a space capable of honouring the legacy of Las Fallas while fostering new cultural expressions.

The design studio is lead by Benedict Esche - kollektiv-a
and supported by Günther H. Filz and Mauricio Morales Beltran - Guest Professor, Architect and Structural Engineer

GUIDELINES

Designs must preserve the Bodega’s main structural frame, but participants are free to remove or reinterpret all internal installations. The surrounding area - soon to be cleared - offers fertile ground for new urban and landscape interventions. Interior spaces should be reconfigured for maximum flexibility using modular or retractable elements, while the exteriors should promote connectivity, inclusion and usability in Valencia’s Mediterranean climate.

REQUESTED MATERIAL

Two A1 panels (59,4 x 84,1 cm), landscape oriented, and a brief text describing the proposal (250-500 words).
