847403 SE Ausgewählte Themen der Architektur: Twisted Forms

Twisted forms are present throughout our surroundings—from nature to human-made objects and architecture. In this seminar course, we study these forms and their functions, taking inspiration from nature to design twisted architectural forms. Together, we will learn how to design such forms digitally and fabricate them using digital and physical methods.

The content of this course included the fundamental applications of twist in architecture. After a general overview of the definition of twist and its manifestations in nature, art, and architecture, we explored strategies for generating twisted forms. The course then transitioned to experimentation, where participants created twisted forms in both digital and physical environments. The final project was designing a canopy using twisted forms to cover the space defined by three existing trees on the Technic Campus, located in front of the Faculty of Architecture at the University of Innsbruck.
