GeoClimateLab

The Earth Science Display Collection of the Departments of Geology and Mineralogy/Petrography, which was redesigned in summer 2019, will be expanded into a faculty facility from 1 October 2025. In future, the new"GeoKlimaLab" will also include exhibits from the Departments of Geography and Atmospheric and Cryospheric Sciences. In this way, the entire spectrum of the globe and the atmosphere will be represented in a display collection.

The exhibition is intended to appeal to school-age children and young people in particular, and by exploring the past and using simulations, future challenges, especially those relating to climate change, can be better recognised and overcome.

Here you can find out more about the GeoClimateLab itself as well as our diverse Workshop offer and current Dates . We look forward to your visit!

The exhibition currently comprises three main thematic blocks:

(1) What do we do? Presentation of the research areas of the institutes
(2) What is it good for? Applications of Earth Science in research, technology and everyday life
(3) Is Tyrol an earthquake region? Ubiquitous natural hazards with a focus on earthquakes

The topics are presented with up-to-date illustrations, interactive objects and computer animations. For example, "self-generated" earthquakes can be recorded and analysed on a screen using an earthquake simulator. There are also unique artefacts on display, such as fossilised plants and animals, the oldest rock on earth and a meteorite that struck near Ischgl in Tyrol in 2010.

Visits, guided tours and workshops are available to visitors of all ages by prior arrangement. The workshops and guided tours can be customised in terms of time and age.
