Guest Lecture Melanie Malzahn
On Wednesday 18 March 2026, a guest lecture was given by Prof. Melanie Malzahn from the University of Vienna. In her lecture, “The pig in the Tarim Basin and what it tells us for Eurasian Studies”, she discussed the presence of pigs (both domesticated and wild) in a geographically defined region and whether this could be established at all. This involved a strong interdisciplinary approach, as the sources drew on linguistics, history, archaeozoology and art history, and impressively demonstrated the potential of the research area covered by the Cluster of Excellence “Eurasian Transformations” and the Doctoral College “Entangled Antiquities”.
