    The online basic training course is in German and consists of 9 parts, which do not have to be completed all at once.

This event is designed to help you successfully apply the basics you learned in the basic training course in your everyday work, thereby establishing a link between theory and practice. The training course is divided into three parts:

  • 1. Training part: General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR); refresher on basic knowledge with practical relevance
  • 2. Training part: Data protection organization at the University of Innsbruck, data breaches, rights of data subjects, and much more
  • 3. Training part: Special topic (e.g., data security in the workplace, data protection at events—which topic are you specifically interested in?)

The course begins with a brief review of the most important terms from the basic training course.

This is followed by a discussion of general principles for handling student data and specific questions and examples from teaching practice:

  • What data protection requirements are relevant when holding courses and exams?
  • How do I handle course materials in compliance with data protection regulations?
  • Am I allowed to pass on all the data I collect during the course?
  • What should I do if a student asks me to delete or disclose their data?
  • What should I do if course documents containing personal data are lost?
  • Why are universities repeatedly the target of hacking attacks?
  • Who can I contact if I have questions about data protection?
  • etc.

We will start with a brief review of the most important terms from the basic training course.

  • This is followed by a discussion of general principles for handling personal data in a research project and specific questions and examples from research:
  • How do I get started with data protection in a research project?
  • What are the legal bases for processing personal data in a research project?
  • What is the Research Organization Act (FOG)?
  • What do I need to consider when conducting an interview?
  • What is the difference between anonymization and pseudonymization?
  • How do I store my data securely?
  • What do I need to consider when planning a research collaboration with another university or partner?
  • What data protection documents are available at the University of Innsbruck for research projects?
  • etc.
