Station Hintereis

Station Hintereis

The Station Hintereis is operated by the Department of Atmospheric and Cryospheric Sciences (University of Innsbruck) and is part of INTERACT (International Network for Terrestrial Research and Monitoring in the Arctic). The station is a small research hut for eight persons built in 1966 at 3026 m, just above the well studied glacier Hintereisferner. Explore the location in 360° on mapillary. Access for researchers can be granted through the Department of Atmospheric and Cryospheric Sciences. Note, approaching the station means walking for several hours and includes crossing Hintereisferner, thus equipment and experience in glacier travelling is mandatory.

The Rofental catchment is a part of INARCH (International Network for Alpine Research Catchment Hydrology) and the LTER (Long Term Ecosystem Research Network).
