A Euclid & JWST synergy: Weak lensing of distant galaxies

With our recent Euclid pilot weak lensing (WL) study targeting the massive galaxy cluster Abell 2390, we demonstrated that Euclid images can deliver WL shape measurements for galaxies that are substantially fainter than what would be expected from the conservative nominal Euclid survey limit. If included, these fainter galaxies increase the WL number density in Euclid’s high‑redshift source tail by a factor ∼ 4–5, providing the potential to extend the regime of sensitive WL measurements with Euclid to higher redshifts.
