Chemical Physics

We explore chemical reaction mechanisms under idealized conditions. We investigate the nature of chemical bonds and explain a multitude of phenomena, ranging from photochemical ageing of sea salt aerosols in the atmosphere via molecular catalysts and iron bearing molecules in space to functional polymers.

    Jia Yang from CityU Hong Kong stays in Innsbruck to continue collaboration

    As part of our project Reactions of salt clusters with organic molecules, Jia Yang Lim will spend the next three weeks in our group. He will continue and extend the theoretical modelling to interpret Jessica’s experimental results on the atmospherically relevant reaction of sodium chloride clusters with formic acid. This time, the calculations will focus on the smallest clusters that were studied experimentally. Jia Yang also plans to compare fluoride‑doped sodium chloride clusters with their pure counterparts. The project is funded by BMBWF/BMFWF in the framework of Eurasia-Pacific Uninet.
