ZID Computer Rooms

Information Technology Services provides computer workstations in the IT user rooms for all university members at the ZID Innrain, ZID Sowi, in the basement of the Architecture Building and in the Faculty of Theology Library. These IT user rooms include

• Computer training rooms
• Multimedia/special equipment rooms

The IT training rooms can be used for courses (see below). At other times, the computers are available for free use by members of the University. The equipment in the multimedia rooms is intended exclusively for device-specific applications.

Opening hours

The current opening hours of the rooms can also be found on the notice boards in the IT user rooms. Restricted opening hours apply during holidays and lecture-free periods.

Use of the IT rooms

Regulations for the use of the ZID user roomsThe computer rooms of the Information Technology Services are freely accessible to members of the University of Innsbruck during opening hours. A valid user authorisation (user ID, password) is required to use the computers in the IT user rooms.

The user room PCs are equipped as managed PCs with a current Windows operating system; in addition, the user rooms at ZID Computer Science can also be used under Linux.

To use the PCs under Windows, you need your user ID with the corresponding password; it is not possible to work as an anonymous user (user, guest). If you do not yet have a user ID, please contact zid-benutzerverwaltung@uibk.ac.at.

Note on saving data on the PCs in the user rooms: please never save your data on the desktop, but directly in your home directory ("drive I:\") in Windows Explorer. This drive is automatically mounted after logging in and you can also access the data - if required - at from outside the university network.

Courses in the IT training rooms

Course instructors can reserve times in the IT training rooms at User service of the ZID to hold courses. If special applications are required to hold a course, these can be provided by arrangement, provided they are compatible with the configuration of the computers in the user rooms. In order to ensure that everything runs smoothly, we ask that you inform us of the desired software configuration in good time before the start of the semester using the software enquiry form.
