Projects

Development of teaching materials for history lessons and for the preparation of a VWA (=Vorwissenschaftliche Arbeit, a paper Austrian pupils write for their school leaving qualification) in the field of contemporary witness interviews, oral history and the Holocaust (June-November 2022, completed)

In collaboration with Julia Demmer from erinnern.at (oead), the Writing Centre has developed working materials for the systematic development of skills for research-based learning and for the preparation of VWAs in history lessons. The material is aimed at teachers and pupils who want to work with oral history methods on the topic of Nazism. The focus is on the topics of storytelling, family memory and descendants as well as practising narrative skills and a reflective approach to life history sources. Among other things, the materials created guide research in video archives and the evaluation of video interviews with Holocaust survivors that erinnert.at has collected in recent decades and prepared for use in schools (e.g. https://www.weitererzaehlen.at/).

The teaching material is intended to enable pupils to try out scientific working methods such as literature research, interviews and writing small evaluation texts.
