MA Project Work Conference Interpreting
Course 613081 VU Project Work in Conference Interpreting
(for master's degree students specialising in the Theory and Practice of Conference Interpreting – only offered in the summer semester)
This course must be attended by all master's degree candidates before completing the MA programme. This project work corresponds to compulsory module 5b (see curriculum, p. 5). It only has to be completed once and is only offered in the summer semester. The course serves as preparation for the exam in Specialisation in Conference Interpreting and is divided into a preliminary session (approx. 1hr) + two block sessions (2hrs 15min each). The prerequisites for enrolment will be checked during the preliminary session.
An overall grade will only be submitted once all exams have been successfully completed, depending on the language combination (four exams for A/B, six exams for A/B/C and six exams for A/C/C/C). Participation in the course is taken into account concerning assessment.
Registration requirement for the course 613081 Project work:
Positive completion of compulsory module 2 and compulsory modules 1C to 4C (cf. MA curriculum in Translation Studies)
Registration for the master's degree exam in the specialisation Theory and Practice of Conference Interpreting
The official registration for the master's degree exam in the specialisation Theory and Practice of Conference Interpreting ensues by e-mail, which must be sent to both the Coordinator of Studies (astrid.schmidhofer@uibk.ac.at) and the examiners within the deadline for registration. The email must include notification of the intention to attend a respective exam date. The Coordinator of Studies must confirm the registration in order for the candidate to take the exam. The exact exam dates (in February after the winter semester and in July after the summer semester) and the exam topics will be stipulated with the individual examiners.
Regulations for repetition of exam
If one part of the exam has not been assessed positively, only the negatively assessed part of the exam must be repeated. Positive results are valid for one year after completing the Project Work in Conference Interpreting course; after this one-year period, all parts of the exam and the course must be repeated.
