Who are we?
What do we student representatives do?
The student representative body (StV) for Translation Studies is a team of students who represent the interests of students on a voluntary basis. The StV is elected every two years as part of the Austrian Students' Union (ÖH) elections. Student representatives are elected by all students at various levels and are engaged in all matters related to university degree programmes nationwide. Candidates for the StV are elected directly by individual votes.
The main tasks of the StV are to represent the interests of students concerning matters related to the university and the student union (ÖH). This includes
- Counselling students, especially first-semester students, and assisting with any concerns, questions and problems;
- Participation in various university committees (e.g. appointments committee, curriculum committee, etc.), which gives us a direct say in a wide range of matters;
- Maintaining contact with the department and teaching staff
- In addition, the StV is keen to promote dialogue between students through various activities (language cafés, pub quizzes, etc.).
Therefore, if you have any questions, issues, problems or ideas, we are always ready to listen to you. Please get in touch to arrange a meeting. Do you have ideas and a desire to help shape student social life at the department? We are always happy to welcome new members to our tutor team, because it's simply easier to study together!
How do counselling sessions work?
We offer counselling sessions throughout the semester. Simply send us a brief description of what you are interested in and 2-3 suggested dates by e-mail - there is always a free slot in our calendar that we can reserve for you. During the last two weeks of the semester, we only offer e-mail consultations due to time pressures of graduation and exams. Thank you for your understanding!
You can also reach us during the lecture-free period at stv-translationswissenschaft-oeh@uibk.ac.at and can arrange a personal counselling appointment with us! 😊
Counselling hours for winter semester 2025/26:
By arrangement
During the semester, you will find at least one of us in the student lounge (Diplomandenraum) on the 3rd floor during consultation hours. However, if you have any important concerns, please write us a short text or e-mail beforehand so that someone is there who is familiar with your issue.
Events
The StV Translation Studies organises a pub quiz and various activities for all students every semester. Feel free to check out our Instagram channel or join our WhatsApp community to stay up to date.

Various departments of the Faculty for Language, Literature and Culture (GEIWI - Romance Studies, Slavic Studies, English/American Studies) also organise film evenings, discussion groups etc. in the respective foreign languages during the semester:
Italian: Cineforum Italiano regularly organises Italian film evenings.
Spanish: Mario Soto-Delgado organises the series "Cine (en) español" on Thursdays from 8pm in HS 7 (Lecture hall 7). The programme is announced every week by email. If you are interested, please send Mario an email so that he can add you to the mailing list.
