Textile Competence Center Vorarlberg 2017-2021
COMET K-Project: 04.2017 – 03.2021
Lead: Research Institute of Textile Chemistry and Textile Physics, University of Innsbruck
Summary
Overall, the industrial partners and the research institutions are very satisfied with the development of the K-project and the target values achieved, as there were no unexpected deviations from the application and the consortium was able to gain exceed the target values set over the full funding period. The four year project is was characterised by a very close cooperation between academic and industrial partners leading to a number of patent filings (8) and scientific publications (36 peer reviewed papers, 2 book chapters and 11 conference presentations). On the contribution to human capital development, 10 master theses and 2 dissertations have been completed and 1 dissertation is running.
The vast majority of project were undertaken as multi-firm projects. The direct involvement of the industrial partners in formulation of research questions and technical approaches led to a very efficient combination of activities leading to scientific output, which can be seen in the number of publications and also joint publications with enterprises, as well as a high number of demonstrators which show the interest of the industrial partners to transfer and implement findings in their processes and products.
A central activity of the project management addressed the balancing of research between fundamental scientific questions and the translation of findings into demonstrators. Both activities are highly relevant for the success of the project and neither of these two activities must gain predominance over the other.
Following the recommendation of the international jury appointed by the FFG for the mid-term review, the consortium applied for a new K-project (tccv2), which finally was selected for funding in 2020 and will start its active phase with 1.4.2021. Thus a direct continuation of the research work will be possible, however new scientific topics will be addressed with a main focus on research in new materials for new products and more sustainable developments.
The focus of the research programme in tccv in year 4 addressed a number of key activities:
High level research, indicated by number of scientific papers and presentations
Human capital development, indicated by number of master thesis and diploma as well as contribution to transfer workshops for industrial partners
new and innovative products, processes and services, indicated by the number of demonstrators
intensification of science-industry relationship, indicated by the number of projects run in tccv, non-K projects with participation of enterprises and attraction of new international partners in the following K-project tccv2.
TCCV is a COMET Project within the COMET – Competence Centers for Excellent Technologies Programme and funded by BMK, BMDW and the co-funding federal states. COMET is managed by FFG.
