We deal with the use and processing of numbers in psychology, the modelling of elementary psychological performance, the development of e-learning environments, and meta-analysis in psychology.
We want to know, for example, under what conditions psychological characteristics can be measured. Can the extent of depression, for example, be mapped to real numbers? How can skills and knowledge content be represented so that teachers or an e-learning system can optimally support learning processes with new content or feedback? What mechanisms underlie simple decisions in simple choice-response tasks? Is it possible to meaningfully measure something like reaction speed in tasks when a test subject may not solve all tasks correctly? How can we make environmental psychology findings comparable and generalizable across studies and disciplines when different scales for environmentally related behavior are used? Our teaching includes statistics and methods courses, as well as courses in cognitive psychology and mathematical modelling. We offer methodological advice and support for the institute, e.g. in clinical psychology and therapy research.
