Special Mention at the Junior Research Award Südtirol 2025

Our team member Magdalena Nagler received a Special Mention at the Junior Research Award Südtirol 2025!

Her research focuses on microbial ecology and the role of environmental DNA in understanding microbial communities, and included a Marie Skłodowska-Curie Action in collaboration with Eurac Research in Bozen/Südtirol. By distinguishing between intracellular and extracellular DNA, she has developed innovative approaches to better assess microbial physiological states and activities in various environments, including anaerobic digesters and soils. The award highlights the importance of her work to advance research in the field of microbial ecology and develop scalable methods for monitoring microbial functions in the environment. Given that she is also a mother of 3, it further cherishes her ability to organize the scientific work around her private responsibilities. Congratulations Magdalena!
