Job profiles for Scientific Staff
This overview is intended to give applicants, employees and supervisors a realistic picture of the tasks and requirements associated with the respective academic position and to answer frequently asked questions.
Please note that some of the job titles are taken from the collective agreement (e.g. Senior Scientist or Senior Lecturer position) and some are the University of Innsbruck's own creations (e.g. Dissertation positions). Please do not compare the positions nationally and internationally according to their title, but only according to their content description.
Please consider these job profiles as a rough overview. Legally binding are the Collective Bargaining Agreement for university employees and the respective employment contract, in which the rights and obligations of the employees are formulated in more detail.
Scientific staff are generally free to organise the start and end of their daily working hours as they wish. However, the following working time limits must be observed: Daily working time max. 13 hours, daily rest period min. 11 hours, weekly rest period min. 36 hours.
The University of Innsbruck aims to offer a working environment that attracts and retains qualified and motivated people. This is also served by a clear and staggered Career planning (Graphical representation as PDF)
Contact: If you have any questions, please contact the Employees of the Personnel Department or the Works Council.

- As with the former university lecturers, this group of employees is largely equal to university professors in terms of their rights and obligations under the collective agreement. In terms of organisational law, associate professors - depending on whether their qualification agreement was offered before or after October 1st, 2016 - either belong to the group of academic staff in research and teaching or to the group of university professors. From the point of view of the rectorate, they should be equally involved in information and decisions at faculty and department level.
- The employment relationship as an associate professor includes the right to carry out academic teaching in their subject using the university's facilities on their own responsibility and in the same way as university professors and to use the university's facilities for scientific work.
- Associate professors may fulfil functions such as head of department, dean, dean of studies. As the head of an organisational unit, they have the same organisational status as university professors.
