Thomas Schubatzky works at the Department of Subject-Specific Edcucation and the Department of Experimental Physics at the University of Innsbruck. His research focuses on climate education in schools: How can the understanding of the scientific principles of climate change but also future thinking and agency can be encouraged? What role does education play in enabling young people to deal with the climate crisis in a reflective and actionable way?

About
Thomas Schubatzky is a habilitated physics education researcher and has been working at the University of Innsbruck since 2022. Thomas Schubatzky's research interests lie in the field of educational research in physics with a particular focus on climate education and the professionalisation of teachers. A central concern of his work is to develop educational approaches that not only impart knowledge, but also empower young people to critically analyse future issues and take collective action in the context of the climate crisis.
Schubatzky is involved in several national and international projects, regularly publishes in international journals on physics and science education and is actively involved in academical teacher training. He has also set up the ‘Wissenschaftswerkstatt West’, a learning laboratory at the University of Innsbruck.
