On February 18, Dominique Reill, Professor and Director of the Wirth Institute for Austrian and Central European Studies at the University of Alberta, visited the University of Innsbruck. Her visit began in the Palais Claudiana with International Affairs, followed by a working meeting with Vice-Rector for Research Gregor Weihs, during which future opportunities for cooperation were explored.
Call for applications for Faculty Exchange in Edmonton
The call for applications for the Faculty Exchange Programme at the University of Alberta for the 2026/2027 academic year is currently open until 15 March. This offers academics from the Faculties of Cultural and Social Sciences the opportunity to spend four weeks at the University of Alberta in Edmonton.
The Wirth Institute itself looks back on a long history: founded in 1998 as the Canadian Centre for Austrian and Central European Studies on the initiative of the Austrian Federal Ministry of Science, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Conference of University Presidents, it soon received support from the governments of Croatia, the Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland, Slovakia and Slovenia. In 2003, it was renamed to its current name in honour of the generous support of Dr Manfred and Dr Alfred Wirth.
Today, the Institute promotes research, teaching and cultural exchange around Austria and Central Europe and is thus a central partner in transatlantic academic networking.
