Independent and reliable information is essential for the development of democracies and our daily orientation. We need high-quality journalism, background knowledge, expert analyses and media that fulfil their control function. We need freedom for the production of knowledge and creative impulses from creative artists for the necessary participation in the democratic process.

The Innsbruck Journalism Festival is a meeting place, a place of debate and cultural exchange. Journalists from different regions of Europe will have their say with their specific expertise. They discuss current pressing issues with academics, NGO representatives and other experts, all of whom enter into dialogue with the audience. At book launches and readings, reporters talk about their experiences and provide insights into their work. Exhibitions with photo reportages and comics, documentary films and audio features are presented. We open a window to the complex present in which we live.

The Journalism Festival Innsbruck is a co-operation project, also with the strong participation of the University of Innsbruck. As part of the elective package "Media Practice", Master's students are organising their own panel.

Admission to most events is free.
