The Department of Media, Society and Communication is one of the world's youngest communication and media science departments. It was established on 1 January 2017.

In our teaching and research, we focus on topics that are currently being discussed in society.

Our English-language Master's degree programme "Media, Society and Communication" provides an understanding of digital platforms, networks, infrastructures, and the processes of digitalisation and datafication (including data analysis and data criticism). Our English-language PhD programme in Social and Political Sciences (PhD Social and Political Sciences) will start in October 2025.

Research at the department focuses particularly on the following areas

• Socio-cultural and socio-technical aspects of media and communication
