Benjamin Kremmel has just returned from the inspiring 63rd ALTE Meeting and Conference in Pécs, Hungary, centered on the theme: “Novel Approaches for Accessibility and Inclusivity within Standardized Language Testing.”
As part of addressing this important issue, Benjamin contributed to discussions on how assessment accommodations can better serve the diverse needs of test-takers, placing particular emphasis on research-based evidence to guide such measures.
In his keynote, “Self-pacing as an Accommodation in L2 Listening Tests: A Straightforward Solution?”, he presented findings from recent studies carried out by our research group that examined whether self-pacing in listening exams can enhance fairness, especially for learners with low first-language literacy skills. Benjamin also delivered a well-received workshop focused on how we may be able to develop more inclusive language assessments.
