Conceived as a platform for satellite‑based quantum communication, the station is named after the Austrian physicist Marietta Blau, a pioneer of photographic methods for imaging high‑energy nuclear particles and events. More details are available in English here (https://www.uibk.ac.at/en/exphys/research/photonik/research/quantum-optical-ground-station/) and in German here (https://www.uibk.ac.at/de/bodenstation-marietta-blau/). We hope to use the ground station to one day connect our matter‑based quantum memories to satellites as part of a worldwide quantum network.

Quantum Ground Station Opens
Today marked the official opening of the new Marietta Blau Quantum Ground Station on the mountain overlooking Innsbruck.
