Snow day

Skifahrer in Kühtai
For all interested workshop participants, we are organizing a Snow Day in Kühtai (kuehtai.info) on Saturday, February 28, 2026. In Kühtai you not only have the option to go skiing (day pass about 60€), but you can also go cross country skiing, do a winter hike or have a drink in the bar at the Iglu-Dorf.
Kühtai is easily reachable from Innsbruck Main Station by bus. You will be able to announce your interest to participate in the Snow Day during registration. Depending on the number of interested participants, we might organize a direct bus transfer to Kühtai.

Depending on the weather - you never know in February - we might also provide guidance for some of them in the days around the workshop.

Night skiing on Friday

Nachtskifahren

There are two ski resorts around Innsbruck that offer night skiing on Fridays - Rosshütte in Seefeld and Rangger Köpfl. Both of them are easily reachable by public transport, either by bus (Rangger Köpfl) or by train (Seefeld). So if you feel like some action after sitting in the lecture room for three days, you should definitely get out there on Friday. But don't waste all your energy, since the Snow Day is coming up on Saturday.

Audioversum

If you are just not getting tired of learning or if the weather just does not feel like going outside (which unfortunately also happens in February in Innsbruck), Audioversum is the place to go.  The Audioversum is a science center focused on the human sense of hearing, combining interactive exhibits with medical and acoustic technology. Here you can explore how hearing works, experience sound in unique ways, and learn about hearing loss and hearing aids through engaging, hands-on installations.

Winter hiking

Bergisel
Kaiserjägermuseum

There are countless opportunities for winter hiking in and around Innsbruck. A short hike you definitely should not miss, is the short uphill hike to the TIROL PANORAMA. Not only do you get stunning views over the city and towards the Nordkette from there, but there is also a great museum. Luckily, we will be right at the foot of the hike for our conference dinner, so do not miss the chance to enjoy the great panorama at night. And if you are already up here - just continue a few steps to check out the Bergisel ski jump!

Another popular winter hike is up to Umbrüggler Alm, since it is the only Alm on Nordkette that is also open in winter. You can either start directly in the city or - if that seems a bit long for you - you can skip a part of the way (and the uphill) by taking the Hungerburgbahn. However, depending on the snow situation caution is advised, as the hike can get quite slippery quickly if there is still snow on the ground.

Skiing with little time

If time is short but the snow is calling, there are three smaller ski areas that you can easily reach from Innsbruck using city busses or the tram - Nordkette, Patscherkofelbahn, and Mutterer Alm. If you are quick, even some laps on Wednesday morning right before the workshop might work out. The most spectacular one is definitely Nordkette, known for its 70% steep Karrinne run. However, Patscherkofelbahn and Mutterer Alm might be the right choice if you just want to get some easy laps in without seeking adventure!
