Center New Orleans offers scholarships to enable outstanding students to spend a semester at our longstanding partner institution, the University of New Orleans (UNO):

Details

  • Four scholarships per semester, or eight per year available.
  • €2,500 per scholarship, paid in monthly installments during the stay abroad.
  • If available, a tuition waiver may be granted instead of the scholarship:

Tuition Waiver

A Tuition Waiver works like a voucher – recipients save between $5,000 and $5,500 in tuition costs (excluding the $150 International Fee). Essentially, the University of New Orleans forgoes your tuition payment. If a waiver becomes available, one applicant will be selected from the pool of candidates. The Tuition Waiver replaces the scholarship.

Eligibility

If one or more of the criteria cannot be met, you will not receive a scholarship, or will be asked to return any payments you have received:

    • Completed first year of undergraduate studies
  • During application process:

      • UNO Transcript of Records
      • Notice of Recognition for courses completed at UNO

Guenter Bischof, PhD, before his retirement from UNO was a Professor of History and the long-time Director of Center Austria. When he retired in the summer of 2023, his kids Andrea, Marcus and Alexander, along with his wife Melanie, as well as family and friends, set up the “Guenter Bischof Scholarship and Research Fund” with the UNO Foundation.

Now in the summer of 2025 is the first time that funds can be dispersed to worthy UNO and University of Innsbruck students. The donors have decided that funding should go to UNO History and/or Center Austria students to do research in Austria  and/or attend scholarly meetings in the U.S. (including UNO students who attend the UNO Summer School in Innsbruck), or to Univ. of Innsbruck students to come and study and do research in the U.S. and at UNO.
