History of the Institute of Biochemistry

1976
Foundation of the Institute of Biochemistry as part of the Department of Chemistry within the Faculty of Natural Sciences at the University of Innsbruck (LFU). 

1976 - 1992
Prof. Dr. Manfred Schweiger heads the institute as full professor of Biochemistry.

1994 - 2014
Prof. Dr. Klaus Bister acts as full professor of Biochemistry and head of the institute.

2002
The institute becomes part of the newly founded Faculty of Chemistry and Pharmacy as consequence of the LFU reorganization, according to the new Austrian University Law.

2004
Foundation of the Center for Molecular Biosciences (CMBI) at the University of Innsbruck in which all research groups from the institute participate until today.

2012
The Institute of Biochemistry moves from the Peter-Mayr-Strasse to the new Center for Chemistry and Biomedicine on Innrain 80-82.

2017
Nomination of Priv.-Doz. Dr. Eduard Stefan as head of the institute.

2019
Prof. Kathrin Thedieck has been appointed full professor of Biochemistry and heads the institute.

2024
Nomination of Assist. Prof. Dr. Marcel Kwiatkowski as head of the institute.
