Job Description

The Universities of Innsbruck and Vienna plus the Institute of Science and Technology Austria (ISTA) are jointly establishing the new FWF-funded Special Research Area “Dark UNiverse Explorations” (DUNE).

The Institute for Astro- and Particle Physics at the University of Innsbruck invites applications for the SFB Scientific Manager (50%) position based at the University of Innsbruck, with a primary focus on scientific project management and coordination.

This includes the following main tasks

  • Organisation of SFB activities, such as meetings, conferences, workshops, and events, in close collaboration with the scientific and administrative teams at the different SFB nodes
  • Participation in main SFB meetings, especially full-team meetings and management meetings
  • Administration of the SFB budget
  • Contributions to the preparation and maintenance of SFB webpages
  • Contributions to science communication activities within the SFB
  • Contributions to the preparation of SFB reports and documents

The SFB-related work will be done in close collaboration with the SFB Coordinator and the corresponding SFB working groups.

Your profile

  • A Master degree, preferentially in astrophysics, physics, or a closely related field
  • Broad interest in astrophysics
  • Strong communication skills
  • Experience in working both independently and collaboratively
  • Good proficiency in written and spoken English
  • Knowledge of German at least at CEFR level B2, or the willingness to obtain this proficiency within a reasonable time frame after appointment

Experience in the following fields is seen as a plus

  • Experience in organizing workshops, conferences, or scientific events
  • Experience in coordinating scientific projects or collaborations
  • Experience in science communication activities
  • Experience in creating and maintaining websites

The fixed-term position is available on a 50% basis (20 hours per week) and funded until February 28, 2030. Remuneration is according to salary scheme IVa of the Collective Bargaining Agreement (Kollektivvertrag) for Austrian Universities, including the corresponding benefits of the Austrian public sector. The minimum gross salary (stipulated by collective agreement) for this position amounts to € 1,725 per month (14 times).
