Sustainability Hub

In addition to sustainability coordination, other sustainability committees such as the Forum for Sustainability and Future Issues and (temporary) working groups for the development and implementation of operational measures have been structurally anchored at the university since 2025.

In addition, the student-led Green Office supports the implementation of sustainability-related projects. The Green Office inspires, empowers and acts to actively promote sustainable development at our university. The Austrian Students' Union Innsbruck is also committed to a resource-conserving and environmentally friendly organisation of everyday university life.

Sustainability Hub Universität Innsbruck

Who are we?

The Forum for Sustainability and Future Issues at the University of Innsbruck is a committee consisting of delegates from all service and organisational units, representatives of the Rectorate, the works councils, the student-organised Green Office and the ÖH. The delegates are delegated by the respective service and organisational units. Interested parties from all curiae and service and organisational units can also take part.

We drive forward important sustainability projects with enthusiasm and responsibility, promote dialogue between faculties and service units, make a significant contribution to the implementation of the sustainability strategy and work together to shape a future-oriented, sustainable university.

What are our tasks and goals?

  • Creating an awareness of sustainability: Through the cooperation and commitment of the entire university community, we strive to achieve tangible and effective results. Our actions are based on a holistic understanding of sustainability and a whole-institution approach.
  • Multiplier and bridge: We act as multipliers and contact persons for the service and organisational units.
  • Communication: With transparent communication, we promote participation and openness around the topic of sustainability and the transformation of the university.
  • Annual/semester topics: We develop and promote key topics in order to set a focus for the year or semester and create space for in-depth exploration.
  • As a forum for sustainability and future issues, we work closely with the various service and organisational units and ensure a smooth flow of information on sustainability and future issues between the Rectorate and these units.

How do we work?

The Forum for Sustainability and Future Issues meets regularly on a fixed date. These meetings provide space for topic-led dialogue and discussions. Meetings are also planned to facilitate informal dialogue and networking.

Who are we?

In order to work in a targeted and efficient manner, thematic working groups can be proposed by the Forum for Sustainability and Future Issues and set up permanently or temporarily by the Rectorate or the Vice-Rectorate for Digitalisation and Sustainability. Each working group is coordinated by a person who feels responsible, acts as a contact person and regularly brings the group together, moderates and secures results. The working groups represent an opportunity to participate in the sustainable transformation of the University of Innsbruck.

How do we work?

The individual working groups meet regularly to discuss their progress in implementing their activities and projects, analyse challenges and develop new ideas. We bring the results and recommendations of these groups to the Forum for Sustainability and Future Issues and are in close contact with the Sustainability Coordination of the Vice-Rectorate for Digitalisation and Sustainability.

The individual working groups can exist for different lengths of time depending on the topic-specific planning and implementation circumstances.

What are our tasks and goals?

  • To concretise and implement our university's sustainability strategy. By developing operational goals and practical measures, we help to implement the sustainability strategy and adapt it to the needs of the university.
  • The realisation of so-called "quick wins".

The Green Office is run by students and acts as a central interface between the university management and the student body.

The Green Office inspires, empowers and acts to actively promote sustainable development at the university. To this end, they form a central point of contact for internal and external cooperation partners. Together with these partners, they offer an attractive and diverse range of events and actively contribute their student perspective to systemic decisions and projects at the university.
