Alpine Infrastructure Engineering
Questions related to infrastructure and its impacts on environment as well as safety issues (natural hazards) are of special interest in Alpine areas due to their effects on society, economy and environment. Infrastructure and safety in an Alpine surrounding are very essential for tourism, too. Accordingly there is a strong public interest on questions, problems and effective solutions.
New knowledge is gained through scientific studies in particular for the interaction of the interfaces between men – nature and technology. The results can be considered in the future when dealing with planning and construction projects.
Research focuses especially on the two topic areas „Infrastructure and Environment“ and „Risk and Protection“. Synergies within the research area „Alpine Space – Man and Environment“ as well as to other research centres at the faculty and the university are utilised. In particular the integration of activities with the research centre „Computational Engineering“ has to be mentioned.
