Prof. Maïté Snauwaert from the University of Alberta is visiting Innsbruck as part of the Faculty Exchange program.

Literary scholar Prof. Maïté Snauwaert from the Saint-Jean Campus of the University of Alberta in Edmonton will serve as a visiting professor at the Universität Innsbruck in May and June 2026. Her stay is part of the Faculty Exchange between the Universität Innsbruck and the University of Alberta, aiming to promote the long-standing academic and cultural exchange between the two universities.

Prof. Snauwaert teaches and conducts research at the French-speaking Saint-Jean Campus of the University of Alberta. Her academic focuses include contemporary literature, autobiographical writing, literature on grief, and the Medical Humanities. In her research, she is particularly concerned with questions of memory, loss, and narrative forms of self-reflection.

During her stay in Innsbruck, Prof. Snauwaert will participate in various academic and cultural activities. As part of her visit, a special film event will take place on June 1, 2026, at 6:00 PM at Leokino (Innsbruck): The Canadian film Kuessipan (Director: Myriam Verreault, 2019), based on the novel of the same name by Indigenous author Naomi Fontaine, will be screened. The film tells the story of two Innu friends in Québec whose paths diverge in adulthood. Prof. Snauwaert will introduce the film and engage in a discussion with the audience afterward.
