Cold and Controlled Collision Dynamics

We investigate the structure and reactivity of molecules under extreme conditions – in ultra-high vacuum, at extremely low temperatures and under laser irradiation. Our experiments provide insights into the formation of complex molecules in space, by-products of hydrogen storage, and the influence of quantum effects on chemical reactions.
Cold and controlled chemistry
Collision experiments involving atoms, molecules and ions in prepared quantum states, using supersonic molecular jets, lasers or ions confined in a cryogenic ion trap.
Spectroscopy and dynamics of ions
Laser spectroscopy of anions and cations, e.g. at free-electron-laser facilities, to determine their structure and to gain a better understanding of their reaction dynamics.
Experiments with boron-containing hydrogen storage materials
Determination of the structure of boron-containing by-products.
