Jens Herbig

Dr Jens Herbig is the Chief Technology Officer (CTO) of IONICON Analytik GmbH in Innsbruck, Austria. After earning his PhD in physics, he joined the start-up IONIMED Analytik in 2006, where he pioneered the use of proton-transfer-reaction mass spectrometry (PTR-MS) for biotechnological and medical applications. He conducted several clinical studies in breath gas analysis and worked on the development of the BET sampler, a sampling system for real-time breath analysis, and its certification for clinical use.
When IONIMED merged with IONICON in 2013, Dr Herbig became CTO, broadening his responsibilities to technical marketing and the development of industrial PTR-MS solutions. Breath-gas analysis remains his main research focus, and he serves the community as an active member of the International Association for Breath Research (IABR) and as a board member of the Journal of Breath Research.
