Camera CCD 4

2008-spring 2010

Direct imaging CCD camera in RC focus with Kodak KAF1603ME in Apogee
Alta 2E (1536 x 1024 pixels a 9 x 9 microns, 16 bit A/D)
0.368"/pixel (or binning 0.736"/pixel and 1.104"/pixel)
9.42' x 6.28' field of view  (60 arcmin²)

focal reduced since 20.10.2008 (feff of telescope goes to 3270 mm)
reduced     0.565"/pixel (or binning 1.13"/pixel or 1.695"/pixel)
14.5' x 9,67' field of view  (140 arcmin²)

Since Summer 2010 - attached to Echelle Spectrograph

2008-2010
Camera CCD 5

same as CCD 4
used at spectrograph
 2008-2015
Camera CCD 6

same as CCD 4 - built on demand by Apogee for us as "Zombie" (from spare parts as the Ethernet version is discontinued) in November 2010.

used since December 2010 for direct imaging at the prime focus.

Normally used with a 250mm achromat lens giving:

without binning:          0.442"/pixel
standard binning 2x2: 0.884"/pixel
low-res binning 3x3:   1.326"/pixel
11.30' x 7.54' field of view  (85 arcmin²)
feff of telescope goes to 4200 mm or f = 1 : 7.0

Without correcting lens the scale is

0.368"/pixel (or binning 0.736"/pixel and 1.104"/pixel)
9.42' x 6.28' field of view  (60 arcmin²)

600l/mm grating gives about 0.1nm/pixel on CCD 1 or 5
240l/mm grating gives about 0.25 nm/pixel on CCD 1 or 5
video guide system giving a slit preview (instead of the ocular).
With the 600l/mm grating we obtain a limiting mag of about 11.
Additionally the grating drive have been modified for remote operation from the computer. Detail

Guiding Cameras

As guiding cameras 3 Watec 120N+ are used. While one is mounted on a motor control looking on a 20% reflecting plate at the instrument holder for direct view and guiding, the second and the third are mounted as focal plane viewers for both spectrograps.

The first camera signal goes to both control monitors (computer room and dome) and thereafter to a frame grabber, the other two directly go to the computer.

since 2010
