Research sites
The Alpine Research Centre lies about 1930 m a.s.l. at the edge of the village Obergurgl (municipality of Sölden). It is a perfect starting point for excursions in the Central Alps. The field sites of the recent research projects are mainly situated in the Rotmoos valley, at the Schönwieskopf, at the Hohe Mut, at the rock glacier Äußeres Hochebenkar and at the Hintereisferner, a glacier near the village Vent. The Beilstein is the main site for archaeological research.
Furthermore, the Alpine Research Centre Obergurgl is a basic site of the Long-Term Ecosystem Research program in Tyrol (LTER Tyrolean Alps).
