Work package no 5: Microclimate, energy budget of ecosystems

Portable battery-powered data acquisition systems will be installed during the main growth period at each investigation site. Profiles of soil, air and leaf temperature, of photosynthetic photon flux density, air humidity, wind speed and CO2 concentration, within and above the canopies, as well as incoming global radiation and net radiation will be measured and will be averaged over 60-min periods. Soil heat flux will be estimated by a combination of the temperature integral method for the upper and the temperature gradient method for the lower layers of the soil. In the grassland canopies water vapour flux and sensible heat flux will be calculated by the energy-balance-Bowen-ratio-method, in the forest stands by means of the eddy correlation method (see work package no 6)
