Caroline Voithofer joined the Department of Legal Theory and Future of Law at the University of Innsbruck on 1.4.2022 as assistant professor. Her research focuses on civil law, legal gender studies, reproductive medicine and genetic engineering law, law & society research and the philosophy of law.

She completed her diploma studies in Law and Business Administration (focus on Organisational Studies) at the University of Innsbruck from 2001 to 2008 and received her PhD in Law in 2010 with a thesis on gender roles in the legal discourse on post-marital maintenance. From 2010 to 2022 she was a university assistant at the Institute for Civil Law.

Caroline Voithofer is a member of the research platform Center Gender Research Innsbruck at the University of Innsbruck. Her current habilitation project is dedicated to the permissibility limits of body-related legal transactions, the regulation of bodies as well as the interaction of different body norms (moral, social, legal).

Teaching

Caroline Voithofer currently teaches medical law, legal gender studies, legal philosophy, theory and methodology, empirical legal studies and legal ethics in the diploma programme in law, in the master programme in business law and in the doctoral programme in law. She has also repeatedly held (international) lectureships and teaching posts in civil law, medical law and legal gender studies, e.g. in Vienna, Graz, Cardiff, Rotterdam and Bern. From winterterm 22/23, she is also teaching the university course on law firm assistance.

Since the 2018 summerterm, she has been deputy head of the interdisciplinary doctoral programme in Medical Law and Healthcare.
