Hypoxie Adaptation

hypoxia02 hypoxia01 The adaptation of animal organisms to variable environmental conditions requires not only immediate responses such as altered frequency of respiration, heartbeat or locomotor activity, but also control at the molecular level, i.e. at the level of gene expression. Using the model animal zebrafish as an example, the effects of oxygen deprivation on the expression of different functional gene groups are investigated. Of particular interest is the differential function of the three isoforms of the hypoxia-inducible transcription factor (Hif) under different oxygen deficiency situations, but also the importance of the Hif proteins for embryonic and larval development. In addition to deciphering sophisticated molecular control systems and their interaction, the focus is also on their importance for the adaptability of animals to a variable environment.
